As you know, in order to protect funding for our most essential health services the CCGs’ three governing bodies recently approved a set of recommendations related to the recent ‘Spending NHS Money Wisely’ public consultation.
As a result we have stopped funding for prescribing some ‘over the counter’ medicines and products including multi vitamins, gluten-free food and dental products, such as mouthwashes and toothpastes. However, GPs can still prescribe dental products when it is an important part of the care they are providing for a patient.
These changes came into effect on Monday 10 July. A full breakdown of the proposals and what was approved is available on the CCG website at: www.barkingdagenhamccg.nhs.uk/spending-wisely
