GPs in North Central and East London are getting access to an expanded range of education for cancer. The UCLH Cancer Academy, on behalf of the UCLH Cancer Collaborative, is building a portfolio of free online learning for primary care professionals, focussed on diagnosing cancer earlier and improving cancer care. Existing packages of BMJ onExamination modules and RCGP e-learning will be complemented by a new package, GatewayC. More information about the package can be found on the UCLH Cancer Academy webpages.
GatewayC is an online cancer education platform for primary care professionals, accredited by the RCGP and endorsed by Cancer Research UK. The UCLH Cancer Collaborative is providing free access to all GP practices in North Central and East London to GatewayC for up to a year. Access will be available from Monday 24 September 2018.
GatewayC has been developed by GPs and other specialists and aims to help increase the proportion of cancers diagnosed at stage one and two, reduce emergency presentations and support patients living with and beyond cancer.
Modules are built around films based on real patient consultations, supported by interactive features. RCGP CPD credits can be claimed by all GatewayC modules.
A pilot rollout of GatewayC took place in Manchester, and found that:
We are providing access to GatewayC for all staff based in any primary care practice in NCEL for up to 12 months. There are currently 6 live modules, 3 more being released very
shortly, and 13 more in development. These cover a range of common and less common cancers, and the majority are focussed on supporting early detection and reducing A&E
presentations. Others focus on living with common late effects of cancer and its treatment, and palliative care. The modules are linked to NICE guidelines and will be continuously
updated to reflect new national policies and guidelines.
Please register on the website: https://www.gatewayc.org.uk/register/
You will be sent your login details shortly after registering, and can begin your learning as soon as you receive this.
