The Men ACWY vaccine was introduced into the national immunisation programme in summer 2015 to respond to a national outbreak of invasive meningococcal group W (MenW) disease. NHS England London Region set up the pharmacy service to enable the continuation of delivery of this vaccine to those aged 18-25 for any person residing in London permanently or on a temporary basis. The results have shown that uptake has been low, therefore since the school programme is now well established, the pilot delivery of Men ACWY through pharmacies ceased on the 31st December 2018.
GP Practices are asked to continue to provide opportunistic vaccinations to their patients.
