Message from Dr Atul Aggarwal, on behalf of Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge Clinical Commissioning Groups:
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has today published its latest report into the services provided at Queen’s Hospital Romford and King George Hospital Ilford which recognised Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) has made significant improvements. As a result, the Trust has been taken out of special measures by NHS Improvement.
As chair of Havering Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and also on behalf of Barking and Dagenham, and Redbridge CCGs, I wanted to set out our response as commissioners.
We are pleased that the sustained efforts, and strength, of the Trust with the support of local health and social care partners have resulted in the improvements which the CQC has recognised in their latest report.
By working closely together we have implemented joint schemes both inside and outside of hospital, which reduce the number of people needing to enter hospital, improve patient flows, and help people to get home quicker once they are well.
Today’s report on the Trust highlighted improvements in children and young people services, dementia care, and the leadership of the Trust. It also recognised that there are areas which still need improving. As commissioners we will continue to support BHRUT to keep making improvements so that our hospitals always provide safe, high quality care for every patient.
I would like to thank all the staff across our health and social care services who have all contributed to the improvements the CQC has recognised.
By working together to reduce significant delays for some patients waiting for treatment, we have demonstrated the benefits of joint leadership and efforts to improve patient care and experience.
Working as a partnership is vital to providing the high-quality services our patients rightly expect and the CCGs and our partners are committed to continuing to work together to achieve this. Our work in developing an accountable care system through local devolution will enable us to take our partnership to the next stage.
