Following the concern raised by the finance committee in October 2019, that more than one scan was conducted for a Female Pelvis ultrasound referral, a report was presented to the finance committee in November 2020, which provided the outcome of the audit of the Transvaginal Ultrasound Scans (TVUS).
The moderation panel comprised of three auditors, one independent as well as the CCG commissioning lead and CSU contracting lead. Due to Covid restrictions a password protected file was made available online to enable the three auditors to conduct audits individually. Where there was debate, the independent auditor, made the final decision.
The outcome of the audit process was that 91% of cases met the standard https://www.sor.org/sites/default/files/document-versions/ultrasound_guidance.pdf.
These cases were discussed in detail and the auditors did not find that any of these cases presented any risk to the patients.
There were a number of outcomes and provider recommendations which you can read as part of the full report in the download area.
