A new clinic for over-18 women who have been affected by female genital mutilation (FGM) is opening as part of a medical centre in Chingford. It is one of six community-based clinics being launched nationally to offer support services to women including assessments and treatment, counselling, advocacy and safeguarding, as well as onward referral to a specialist when required. The service is available to women who live, work and study in any part of London – including Barking & Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge.
The clinic is provided jointly by Whipps Cross Hospital and community mediators from Women’s Health and Family Services. Women across London can make an appointment by walking in, phoning 020 8430 7020 or by emailing bartshealth.fgmwhipps@nhs.net. They can also be referred by their GP or hospital consultant.
