Dear GP partners,
RE: Duke Elder Eye Unit at St George’s Hospital Tooting, re-opening Wednesday 1st May
As previously communicated, as part of our commitment to continually strive to improve our services and to ensure Moorfields can continue to deliver the very best eye care and patient experience, last year in January 2018 we commenced a full refurbishment of the Moorfields Duke Elder Eye Unit at St George’s Hospital. This work included a ward redesign and waiting area reconfiguration, providing new, modern and fit-for-purpose accommodation and clinical pathways. This is essential in ensuring Moorfields can provide the very best clinical environment for patients and staff both now and in the future.
At the time it was anticipated that the Duke Elder Eye Unit would be closed for a period of six to eight months, unfortunately due to unforeseen additional estate works this has been delayed. We now have been given final assurances from St Georges and the ward has been registered by the CQC. We have been given the go ahead to return to the Duke Elder Eye Unit. We are moving back over the weekend of the 27th April and will be operational on Wednesday 1st May.
We realise that there may be some patients who are finding the journey to other sites difficult; and we appreciate their patience during this period whilst we move back to the Duke Elder Eye Unit. Overall patients have been very positive about the service that they receive at St Anthony’s and City Road, and we are receiving good friends and family feedback.
From the 1st May the following services will be relocated back to the Duke Elder Eye Unit.
From the 3rd June the following services will be relocated back to the Duke Elder Eye Unit.
