Male Cancer Awareness Week runs from 2-8 September 2019. Run by the charity Orchid, this important annual campaign raises awareness of male specific cancers – prostate, testicular and penile cancer – and provides practical advice, support and information on the detection, diagnosis and treatment of these diseases.
During the week, the charity is running a ‘F.A.C.E. up to prostate cancer’ campaign to encourage men to think about four key risk factors linked to the development of prostate cancer:
The campaign encourages men affected by any of these risk factors to consider having a conversation with their GP about prostate cancer, with anyone who experiences a change in urinary habits and thinks they are at risk being urged to seek medical advice. ‘F.A.C.E. up to prostate cancer’ posters are available as part of the free Orchid Male Cancer Awareness Week resource pack. You can find out more on the charity’s website.
During the summer, Orchid was commissioned by East London Health and Care Partnership to deliver a prostate cancer population awareness programme across north east London. This included three prostate cancer information roadshows in BHR that sought to raise awareness of the signs, symptoms and risk factors among African and Caribbean men, their families and anyone concerned about the disease.
