From 15 October 2019 patients will be able to choose to receive NHS-funded in vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment from Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT).
BHRUT offers IVF cycles with a comparable or higher pregnancy success rate than the national average through their partnership with Guy’s and St Thomas’s Assisted Conception Unit. The unit has a 40 per cent success rate (based on two cycles of pre-implantation genetic diagnosis treatment) and, overall, results compare favourably with national data.
This service has been available for self-funding patients for more than two years and will complement the gynaecological sub-fertility services (e.g. fertility testing and investigation) that BHRUT currently offers people living in BHR.
The extension of the IVF service to include BHRUT as a provider will enable local people to receive care closer to home, and there will be continuity of care for those couples who have already been referred to BHRUT for sub-fertility investigations. The extended service will deliver high quality care and an excellent patient experience.
The referral process for the BHRUT IVF service is the same as the process currently followed for their sub-fertility service. Referrals should be made directly via eRS, specifying the following service name: Gynaecology – One Stop Fertility Clinic – Queen’s Hospital RF4 – BHRUT.
If you have any questions or queries about BHRUT’s IVF service or referral process, please contact them directly on:
Barts Health NHS Trust (Barts) and Homerton Hospital (Homerton) will continue to provide IVF services for new and existing patients from across BHR . Patients currently receiving NHS-funded IVF treatment do not need to do anything - they will continue to receive uninterrupted IVF treatment from their current hospital provider.
Please note, the extension of this service is an additional patient choice option and new patients will continue to be able to choose to receive IVF services from Barts or Homerton.
