As you may be aware, Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge Clinical Commissioning Groups and Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust are working on a joint scheme called ‘Improving Referrals Together’, which has involved clinicians from secondary care and primary care coming together to develop referral pathways for our most challenged specialties.
The aim is to develop clear pathways, with referral templates and discharge templates to ensure that both secondary care and primary care clinicians have the information required to progress a patient as speedily as possible.
We have held three workshops so far to look at ENT, MSK, Gastro, General Surgery, Dermatology, Cardiology, Neurology, Urology and Ophthalmology pathways. These have been enthusiastically attended by consultants and GPs.
The first set of pathways for ENT have been launched with Cardiology, Neurology, Urology and Ophthalmology to follow within the next few weeks.
The next set of workshops planned for June will cover Haematology, General Surgery and Gynaecology, with workshops around MSK and Gastro following in July/August.
