Dear Colleagues,
Child Health Information Services (CHIS) have a vital role in ensuring that all children in a locality are identified and that their screening and immunisation status is recorded. CHIS carry out this function by working closely with clinical services to ensure children receive timely and appropriate care; this is dependent on CHIS holding accurate and up to date records.
Starting in August, the CHIS will be undertaking work to set up a system to notify GP Practices on a weekly basis of due (and in due course) overdue immunisations.
These will cover the childhood immunisations (children who are 0-5 years of age) including the seasonal influenza vaccinations where these need to be provided by Primary Care.
The notifications will include immunisations that are due to be given but also that are overdue as a reminder to GP practices of children that may have fallen through the net of their own system. However, the notifications are not a replacement to the GPs own call/recall system.
The aim of this enhancement is to (1) improve the accuracy of immunisation records and (2) improve the immunisation coverage across London. Therefore, there is no obligation for the GP to do anything in return in addition to current obligations as it is meant to be supportive of the overall immunisation programme.
