Health champion opportunities for practice PPGs

Volunteer community health champions provide invaluable support and motivation to local residents, helping them to achieve healthier lives by raising their awareness of healthy lifestyle services.
What does a community health champion do?
- Information and signposting to a wide range of healthy lifestyle services
- Deliver basic healthy lifestyle coaching sessions
- Support the delivery of a number of public health initiatives, including walking programmes, stop smoking advice and healthy families.
What can a PPG member gain from being a health champion?
- Learn about key health conditions affecting local people
- Training on health coaching, public engagement and signposting to local services
- Support and guidance in setting up health promotion activities
- Use their learning to share ideas and opportunities with the PPG and practice
- 1:1 support and supervision from the health champion manager
- Supported to offer 1:1 healthy lifestyle support for patients
The health champions programme is funded by Barking and Dagenham council (LBBD) and is a part of the LBBD public health team.
