The Minor Surgery (MS) DES enables practices to provide MS services for their own registered list and, if they chose, to receive referrals from other non-participating GP practices.
This enables 100% coverage for the provision of extended minor surgery services (excluding any services commissioned as an Additional Service). The function for managing the inter-practice referral scheme is currently commissioned by NHS England through an online London-wide portal.
On 11 July 2018, NHS England notified CCGs of the decommissioning of the current contract provider for the inter-practice referral portal, detailing that the DES will remain available but participating CCGs/STPs needed to provide a local solution for inter-practices referrals from Saturday 30 March 2019.
A review of the current London-wide online portal was undertaken by the CCGs, which concluded the best option at this time was to develop a ‘like-for-like’ portal.
BHR CCGs have now created the portal via the three BHR GP intranets. Because this is an information-sharing portal, you can start to use this now – so you are ready for when the NHS England switch off the existing London-wide portal. Please access the portal via this link on the GP intranet.
Please note that the claim process for GP Practices remains the same as present, which you currently do through the claim form.
If you have any questions about the minor surgery portal or MS services, please speak first to your Primary Care Improvement Lead (PCIL) or contact our team (bhrccgs.primarycare@nhs.net)
