Diabetes FAQ

What are the sick day rules for patients with diabetes with COVID-19?

  • NHSE and NHS Improvement London have produced sick day rule patient crib sheets for Type 1 diabetes on multiple daily injections, Type 1 on an insulin pump and patients with Type 2 diabetes
  • Although not COVID related, if patients are unwell, Think Kidneys NHS UK have produced (last updated 2018) a 'sick day rules' position statement in patients at risk of acute kidney injury which refers to guidance given to patients when they are well, about how to manage their own medication should they become unwell. It does not relate to clinical management of known or suspected AKI by health care professionals
